Sobini inks ‘Peaceful’ pact – Salva onboard to helm pic
By Cathy Dunkley | VARIETY | 12/9/04 Mark Amin's Sobini Films has inked a deal with Blockbuster subsid DEJ Prods. and Inferno Distribution to finance its feature version of novel "Peaceful Warrior." Victor Salva ("Powder," "Jeepers Creepers," "Jeepers Creepers II") has come onboard to direct the pic. DEJ has committed to a domestic release for pic and is expected to ink a licensing deal with another distributor while putting up P&A. Inferno will handle international distribution rights. Pic, based on Dan Millman's bestseller "Way of the Peaceful Warrior," is being produced by Amin, Sobini's prexy Cami Winikoff and prexy of production Robin Schorr. David Welch also will produce. It's the story of a top college gymnast who has a chance encounter with an unusual man at an all-night gas station that sets him on a spiritual quest and changes his life. Pic, adapted by Kevin Bernhardt, Anthony DiPietro and Bob Dolman, is skedded to start shooting Feb. 15. |
